Series 1: Episode 5 | Morning Anxiety - why me, why you what to do & not do

Do you find yourself wide-awake and wired at 5am?

Early morning anxiety is an extremely common form of anxiety that leaves most of us wide awake in the early hours of the morning, struggling to switch off and get back to sleep. In this podcast, I discuss why this phenomenon occurs and what you can do to combat this unwanted wake-up call.

Early morning anxiety seems to be a sadly common phenomenon, given the questions I receive, personal experience of family and friends and the amount of internet searches with this title.

It is not easy to explain why it happens since there seem to be many contributing factors but listed below are some possible reasons and tips which may help:

Generally when people wake with early morning panic, they have already been experiencing stress and anxiety throughout the day.

On waking, the body tenses and jumps into ‘fight or flight’ at the memory and thought of another stress filled day ahead. Thus a bout of negative thinking ensues before the day has even begun and a repeating cycle of early morning dread is created. Series 1: Episode 4 | Fear of being judged by others

It is a sad truth that we spend a lot of time seriously concerned about what other people think of us and our actions. Our fear is being judged by others and this plays a huge part in our interactions with the world on a daily basis. Something that I wish I had known growing up is that people will ALWAYS judge you, so you may as well do what you want (within reason).

This episode documents the fears or preconceptions that you may have about yourself and the way that you conduct yourself. You know, nobody gets through life by never getting judged. But the thing is, it is only somebody else's idea of how you should 'be', act or talk. So it really is about what somebody else thinks about you that they are projecting their knowledge or opinion on you. People are an accumulation of experiences and that is what is being projected onto you! Its up to you whether you chose to listen to it, take it board or disregard it.

Series 1: Episode 2 | Mind Body Balance

Today I talk about what the mind-body balance is. This has been a long standing debate within psychology and the medical model, where nothing had been decided upon. But with our modern society we are turing towards a more mind-body apporach to healthcare. People who are holistically attuned to their bodies often talk about and mind, body connection. The mind and body connection is the recognition of the link of how important these two concepts are. Without these two concepts in sync you become out of balance.

Our mental and physical being is paramount to our survival. This determines the type of life we lead. The classical approach to our mental wellbeing is that our brains chemistry affects our thoughts and actions.
